السلام عليكم

Can any one please answer my question ?

It's about the importance of the Amylase in the investigations

And is it right that we can see the level of amylase either from urin or serum

the one i'm sure about it is the serum amylase ....so if the there is a urine amylase ,i'll be glad if someone tell me about it

thanks

hi dreams
realy i dont know alot about amylase , BUT

amylase enz. is secreated by pancreas
( but i dont know if its secreated by salivary gls. !! )

it can be detected in both serum & urine

in case of acute pancreatitis :
- serum amylase : more than 1000 IU/L
- urine amylase high

in chronic pancreatitis:
- serum & urine amylase MAY be high

i hope this helps u

where do u study medicine? which year ?

السلام عليكم

well, thank alot Mody80 for ur reply

if u don't mind, i want to ask about it more. i mean Amylase enz

In acute pancreatitis , i wanted to know is it the diagnostic test?

or by another word is it confirmatory?

It can be detected in other cases ,such as peptic ulcer perforation, instinal obstruction and acute cholycystitis.....in lower levels

about these cases is this test confirmatory ? and is it serum or urine amylase ?:أفكر:

Hope u can answer these Questions

i'm studying in Saudia arabia

Thanks Again

dreams >> ur questions r so specific ?? it seams higher than our leveles ??
but anyhow .. i ll try to think with u ...

in acute pancreatitis , there is acute upper abdomenal pain ..
this pain is simillar to pain of perfprated P U , high I O & acute cholecystitis
ie these disease are the DD fo Ac. pancreatitis
SO in a case of upper abdomenal pain , measuring serum & urine amylase is important to exclude pancreatitis
also Lipase enz too

but amylase is not specific or diagnostic in a case of PU or IO
i think it is normal in both

hey dreams is that an mcq question .. tell me it so i may think with u

Thanks alot Mody80

Yes u r right about the D.D of Acute pancreatitis, this topic is really interesting

But i have a comment about the level of Amylase in P P U, I O and acute cholecystitis

IT is NOT normal ,,,, it 's above normal (around 500 IU/L) isn't it?:أفكر:

This wasn't an MCQ , but i was confused about this Amylase :(

Thanks again
