help me to install acrobat reader 5

ارجو المساعدة في تثبيت البرنامج acrobat reader 5

I have linux mandrake 8.1

انا نزلت البرنامج من موقع acrobat - النسخة المجانيه.

كيف نساعدك وانت حتى ما كتبت ايش فعلت بالضبط ولا اي رساله ظهرت لك !!!

I went to Adobe's Web site and downloaded the Linux version. It's about 9MB in size.
The file is tarred and compressed in gz format.

First, create a new directory:

mkdir adobe

Move the downloaded file to this new directory:

mv linux-506.tar.gz adobe


then go to this new directory:

cd adobe

Then uncompress, type:

tar zxvf linux-506.tar.gz

To install, first you must become root user:

su

To install Acrobat:

./INSTALL

The Adobe Acrobat version 5 was installed without any problem.

To start Acrobat Reader, type:

/usr/local/Acrobat5/bin/acroread

Of course, you can add it to your path.

Loner قمت بجميع الخطوات الموضحة ولكن يظهر الخطأ التالي اثناء التثبيت ( في الصورة ) :

I think you get this error because you don't have the "ed" program.

To check, type:

which ed

The "which" command searches the system for the location of the executable files of 'ed' and if it finds it, it will print something like this:

/bin/ed

If it does not find it, 'which' will print a LONG line of all the paths that it uses to search the system.

If you don't have the 'ed' program, then you have to install it from the CD or from the Net.
After that, repeat the install steps.

خلاص نزلت الـ ed program من السي دي واشتغل معاي البرنامج

لكن سؤال اخير ...كيف اوصل للبرنامج من قائمة البرامج ( اللي يقابلها قائمة ابدأ في ويندوز )

Since I use Gnome, I'll give the steps for adding programs to the Gnome Main Menu. The steps for KDE should be similar.

Let's say that I downloaded a program called "Adobe Acrobat" and I installed it under /usr/local/bin, and I want to add it to the Gnome Main Menu, here are the steps :

Click on Gnome Main Menu-Programs-Settings-Menu editor. A window will open up. Since you are a normal user, you will be able to add items under the "Favorites" menu only.

Click on Favorites, and then click on "New Item" icon on top.

Now, you have to add info of the porgam that you want to add. For example: Name is Adobe Acrobat 5, Comment is the same as name or you can leave it empty.
Then , the most important thing, the path to the program (/usr/local/bin/acorbat). You can choose an icon for this menu item, just click on the square icon and choose a nice icon.

After that, click Save. And there will be a new menu item under:

Gnome Main Menu-Favorites

Now, if you want to add items under Gnome-Programs, you will have to be root user. Log out, and login as root. Go to Gnome-programs-Settings-Menu editor. Now you can add items under Gnome-Programs.

After you are done, logout and login as a normal user.

لقد قمت بتجربه الشرح السابق مع RH7.2 و النتيجه!!!!!!!؟

Loner....هناك اختلاف كبير في إضافة برنامج الى القائمة بين Gnome و KDE و ماقدرت اتابع شرحك لأني استخدم KDE ولكن لو تشوف الصورة و توضحلي كيف اضيف البرنامج في واجهة KDE

الثاني اكتب معلومات عامة عن البرنامج

الثالث اكتب

/usr/local/Acrobat5/bin/acroread

When I used the /usr/local/bin/acrobat, it was as an example!

اسف انا كتبت المسار مثل ما كتبه الأخ لونر ظنن مني ان هذا مسار البرنامج

عموما كما قال لك الأخ لونر بدله بـ

واشتغل البرنامج وكل شي تمام ...الله يحفظكم ذخراً لنا.

أنا ثبت الأكروبات كان بسيدي بصيغه rpm وضغطت ضغططتين بالماوس وثبت:0) :0) :0)

حلوه الـ rpm و سهله لكن الأحلى انك تعرف ايش تركب و كيف تركب و وين تركب ;-)
