End of Evangelion DVD Defective

Anime on DVD has received a massive number of reports confirming that Manga Entertainment's new DVD release of End of Evangelion is defective. Apparently the DVD will play flawlessly in Playstation 2 and Xbox consoles and select set-top DVD players, but either will not play at all, or experiences massive compatibility problems with numerous models of set-top DVD players from manufacturers including Sony, Pioneer, Toshiba, Sanyo, Daewoo, Apex, Sampo, and others.

Manga Entertainment general manager Mike Eagen has informed AnimeNation that Manga is currently evaluating the situation to determine the seriousness of the problem. Consumers experiencing problems with the DVD are highly encouraged to contact Manga Entertainment directly to report the defect, either through the Manga Entertainment website or by phone at 312.751.0020 or fax at 312.751.2483. Contacting Manga Entertainment directly is the fastest and most effective way to urge the company to address the problem immediately.

Consumers that have purchased the End of Evangelion DVD from AnimeNation and experienced compatibility issues are encouraged to email us. AnimeNation will then relay directly to affected customers whatever information we receive from Manga Entertainment as news becomes available.

Well I don't know if it's old news for you or not, though...

Cartoon Network has aquired broadcast rights for Trigun!

Cartoon Network today announced the acquisition of three animé series that will air during Adult Swim, its highly-rated late night block of animation for adults 18-34. The three series are Lupin the Third, Reign and Trigun. Lupin the Third follows the adventures of the greatest thief in the world. Lupin is a globetrotting crook, as well as a suave gentleman. Aided by two partners, expert marksman Jigen and samurai master Goemon, Lupin's mad-capped adventures take him around the world stealing extraordinary treasures, helping damsels in distress, staying one step ahead of Inspector Zenigata and matching wits with rival thief, beautiful and dangerous Fujiko.

Trigun takes place in the distant future on a deserted planet. Vash the Stampede is a gunfighter with a legend so ruthless he has a $60,000,000,000 bounty on his head. Entire towns evacuate at the rumor of his arrival. But the real Vash the Stampede, the enigmatic and conflicted lead character in Trigun, is more heroic, even though he usually acts like a complete idiot.

Alexander the Great was the world's most powerful warrior. Reign is a 21st century science-fiction retelling of the legend of this Macedonian king. A visual masterpiece, Reign tells the story of Alexander's's triumphs through engaging characters, intricate plots and glorious battle sequences.

Lupin the Third will air Monday-Thursday at 12 midnight (ET, PT), beginning Monday, January 13. Programming information for both Reign and Trigun will be announced at a later date.

China Central TV making Anime!

The Nippon Animation Company and the China Central TV Broadcasting Station (CCTV) have announced that they signed a deal, earlier this month, to co-produce a number of Anime TV Series to be broadcast in Japan and China. As many as 20 of Nippon Animation's staff will be transferred to China to work on the project, and CCTV will also send a number of staff to Japan to study the Japanese way of producing animated TV series. This is the first time a Japanese Anime studio has signed a major deal with a major Chinese TV station. Chinese law restricts the amount of exposure and airtime foreign produced material can receive on Chinese TV. However material that is co-produced with a chinese company is not subject to these limitations, as such this will be the first time that a Japanese Anime series is broadcast across China.
