This is a starter kit and includes everything you need to get started. But before you decide to buy this, ask yourself a few questions...
Q: Do you connecct to the internet via a broadband connection (cable, dsl, etc)?
A: If not, your out of luck, Xbox Live requires a broadband connection. Therefore do not buy this Xbox Live Stater Kit. If you really want Xbox live, I sugguest you talk to your local telecommunications or cable company about a getting a broadband line. If that doesn't work, you could try resorting to satillite, this service doesn't acheive the speeds of a typical broadband line, but it performs way better then the average 56k line.
Q: Guessing you already have a broadband internet connection, Do you have some sort of ethernet-based LAN in your home?
A: Xbox live connects to the internet via ethernet (CAT5 or greater), so ethernet is a must-have. A router is reccomended to be used if you want to share your broadband connection with your xbox and computer. Along with this, you should have an ethernet cable wired to the location in your home where your xbox is kept, usually around the TV. By the way, ethernet is not included in the xbox live starter kit. You'll need to buy ethernet from a third party manufactuerer.
It sounds like you don't have any experiences or knowledge in basic computer networking, I'd recommend you research basic home networking on the internet. If you know someone who knows about this, perhaps you should probably contact them.
