Introduced at the New York International Auto Show in April 2003, the 2004 Galant is appreciably larger than its predecessor and has notably different styling. Considered an all-new model, the Galant has received a full makeover inside and out. Sales begin in late fall 2003.

Mitsubishi claims that the engine in the Galant LS and GTS is the largest in the midsize class: a 3.8-liter V-6 that produces 230 hp. The Galant is also available in DE and ES trim levels, and these are powered by a 160-hp four-cylinder engine.

Riding a greater wheelbase than before, the Galant is also wider and longer overall. Its interior dimensions have also grown. Front shoulder room is greater than 57 inches, and rear legroom measures 37 inches. The chassis is the same one used for the new Endeavor SUV.
