I learned english from a philipino touter my father brough thats when I was 5 years old, then when I got to 8 she started teacheing my by reading the highschool engllish book and newspapers, at 10 it was the hardest and most painfull she made me read the tofal book and she had the athority to punish if I say no and I got a lot of that painfull punishment

ofcores I wasnt alowed to talk to her in other than english even if she know what the word ment

but I am happy for that cuz if it wasnt it I would have the level of a normal student in english

Salam..
First of all, Thanks A.S.G For this thread :)

I learned English through self-teaching..

and I didn't attend an english school or anythin' like that...

I was playing some games :P Final Fantasy VII to be exact.

I wanted to know what's goin' on and what the story was... I forced myself to read and try to understand everything... the dialogue was pretty good, I did have some difficulties but hey.. My english level raised TOO MUCH lol.

after that I began to love English... I began chattin' in english with some foreigners and stuff..

and now.. the guy who used to get a C in 5th grade got a fullmark on his toefl exam :P

Sorry if I talked too much :P But I'm the "bla bla bla" kind lol..

Adios!

this is an important subject ... i think it should be always in the top.
anyway... i learned english from the amiricans movies (they are useful after all) ... what exactly i do is that i watch alot of movies until i like one... so i start watching the same movie again and again and again.... untill i memorise the whole movie...i even copy the actor accent... after that i start checking the vocabulary of the words that i already know and start to use them in my own sentense....

the same thing happens with vedio games that contains english subtitle

but my problem is still with the spelling of the words :(
 ...

hi guys
first of all i want to say that nothing here in saudi arabia makes u better person than self learning.the education system here is suck.
so depened on yourself
for me the thing that helped me the most to learn english is that im a big addicted of video games since i was a kid,,
in short ,,,self learning is the solution to not just master english but to be a better person.
i hope my words are understandable
thanx

My English improved by three main ways:

First: because of my interests to know more about anything, when I was very young -4,5years-.
Second: from school .. like anyone.

Third: from TV.. Movies and other stuff

thank you for your nice idea:).
