Side Facts >> Lets talk about the cutout filter. It's listed under " Artistic > Cutout.. " , it's a default filter and comes in very handy to make images look like illustrations. Here we have a half n half, You can see how it make the grainy background color softer. The sunlight glare becomes a shade of blues. The filter takes out a lot of details that you sometimes may not want in a image.

Paper Brushes >> I picked these funky brushes at the adobe site. You have 6 different styles and in this tutorial we will use 2. You can pick any two and play around with the look it gives you image. Don't forget you can resize all the brushes.

Work it!! >> Here we have a nice tomcat image. Seeing as I work at the FAA, I'm gonna need a plane image. Listed in this image I've posted the layers needed I've pre made them so we can do this faster.

Cut it out! >> I've gonna a head and done the cutout filter on this image here plus added a new white layer with my paper brush. I've set the "Opacity" to 70% so it will fade into the image. You can play around with the layer setting and it will give you other effects. This paper brush is set to 1024, I found these over at the Adobe site and fell in love with the style that gives the image.

3. Okay move along!! >> Now you're going to need a basic knowledge of photoshop layers here. I'm giving you the cheap and dirty version of this... I've added a brown/orange color layer and set it to "Color" that's how I got my sepia tone. On top of that I added another layer with a white paper brush. This one was used to the image looked like it was folded. Or in our case it looks like a brown paper bag stamped with a image. Strange I know.

Oh Bugger! >> I'm sorry I was going to add the TV scan lines and give this image a even funkier look but I forget to take a screen of it. Here I've reduced the Opacity of the "Image" to 50%. This will make the image darker. Now you can darken the image with the contrast tool, but then you'll be stuck with the change. Here you can go back to the original color with out having to commit to the shade.

Final >> Okay We're almost done! Here I've added the scan lines and took it down to 30% Opacity. I've also made the image opacity less so it would be darker. Got some small font text and a faded text at the bottom. This will then be made into a image map.... It's a strange style, but on a black background this looks really cool. You can also do color fades like my intro page, there's a lot to play around with... Have fun!
