السلام عليكم
طبعا كلنا نبغي نطورأنفسنا في الفوكاب.
في ناس عرفوا طريقة لفعل ذلك بس في ناس ما عرفو كيف
فخطرت لي فكرة وهي وضع موضوع للنقاش عن كيفية تطوير نفسنا في الفوكاب

فأتمنى من الأعضاء التفاعل ...ولكم جزيل الشكر

Of course, we all want to build our vocabulary

Some people found the way but other couldn't

So I have an idea

Why we don’t put object to discuss the ways to built our vocabulary

I hope that members join to us >>>>thanks

Hey there guys

This is the Vocabulary Lesson Contest

And I, Naughty Angel, will be your teacher
:reporter:

This is how the lesson goes

Each time, I'll post five words and their meanings, and I'll put them in sentences to make it easier for all of us to learn, and to make sure that you completely understood them

I'll begin first with general words

And later on, I'll be posting important words from more specialized fields such as medicine, engineering, military, and so on

So, today's five words are

1- Abhor (v.): To hate very much; to detest

e.g.: Ahmad abhors Indian food because it is too spicy

2- Abortive (adj.): Unsuccessful

e.g.: Ali's attempt to climb the mountain was abortive; he fell off when he was halfway up

3- Accost (v.): To approach and speak to someone in unsuitable places

e.g.: Amani was surprised when someone accosted her in the middle of the crowded street

4- Acute (adj.): Sharp

e.g.: Nora's eyesight is acute, she can spot a needle even when others can't

5- Aggregate (n.): A collection of mixed things

e.g.: A salad is an aggregate of many vegetables

Tip: Make sure to use the correct part of speech

Note: Some words have more than one meaning, so if you know one of the words with another meaning don't think yours is wrong

I also forgot to mention that there is no lesson without home work
^^^ the best part

:naughty2:

So, Today's homework is as follows:
Put each of these words in a complete sentence FROM YOUR OWN
Longman, Oxford, Meriam Webster and Al-Mawred are my best friends, so don't try to steal their sentences
:09:

BTW: after every four lessons, there will be a winner
:reporter:

Each lesson is out of five marks

Note: Grammar, spelling, and punctuation mistakes will be counted

So be careful

Please do not hesitate to ask any any anything, and if you wanted an Arabic explanation for any of the words please tell me and I'll be happy to explain them to you

Good luck

and

Ciao for now

Just in case you do not know the parts of speech

Here they are

Noun = الإسم
A book

Verb = الفعل
I read a book

Adjective = الصفة أو الحال (تصف شيء أو شخص)
A big book

Adverb = الصفة أو الحال (تصف فعل)
I read the book quickly

.His Idea is an abortive one,It is too stupied

Stupid

Spelling mistake - 1/4

.My Trail To finish that video game was Abortive.

Trial

Spelling mistake - 1/4

Since you got the first one correct, I'll forgive you

Correct +1

She got a nice aggregate of clothes.

and i have a question teacher

if i saw someguy who r sad... then i stoped and ask him why he is sad..how can i use the word accost?

Why would you want to stop someone in the middle of the street to ask him why he is sad??

:blackeye:

:09:

أو انك تكلم أحد ما تعرفه بطريقه مو كويسه.. مثلا تمسك واحد فنص الطلريق و تقله: هي انتا معاك ساعه؟؟؟؟؟؟؟

لكن لو تكلم أحد بطريقه عاديه أو تسأله.. او زي الموقف اللي انتا قلت عليه تستخدم كلمة

Approach

أو ببساطه تقول

asked

أو.. أتلقفت :09:

?Got it

على فكره.. انتبهت لأغلاط السرعه حقتك اللي فسؤالك؟؟

يويلك أشوفها تاني فاهم؟؟ حعاقبك مره تانيه :vereymad:

Thanx alot teacher for these useful words..

I abhor a person who is late because this is rude- 1

Correct +1

Don't forget to use the indefinite article

ok? :)

2- This show is abortive because the subject is silly

Correct +1

But try to make the meaning of the word more obvious

E.g.: The show is abortive because the director is terrible

3-My friend can understand math very quickly, she is smart and acute

Correct +1

BTW: You used another meaning of acute, not the same one as Da S.O.S's

Acute = Clever; sharp

4- When I was in the meddle of street, someone accosting me and ask me about the way of somewhere

Grammar mistake - 1/4

Spelling mistake + forgot the article -1/4

Accosted

Asked

Middle

You have to use the past tense because you said in the beginning

"When I was"

?Got it

2/1+

5- I like to drink cocktail because it is an aggregate of fruit

Again, don't forget to use the indefinite article

Correct +1

******

anyway

i really liked the idea of having such a topic for vocab. lessons

i would have participated

--- Part Four ---

The Decider

Criterion (n.): Standard; basis for judgment

E.g.: When I judge a meal, I only have one criterion: is it edible?

Note: Criteria is the plural

Critic (Person n.): One who finds fault; one who judges works

E.g: She had to sing really well as the critic for the magazine would be present, and she wanted a good review

Edible (adj.): Good or safe to eat

E.g.: Not all kinds of mushroom are edible

Egocentric (adj.): Selfish; believing that he is the center of everything

E.g.: Sara was so egocentric that she couldn't give anyone credit for doing anything

Felicity (n.): Happiness; skillfulness

Shakespeare wrote with great felicity. His works were filled with felicitous expressions

Good Luck

;)

Hi dear sister
Welcome back.
Here are my answers:
(Criterion) – Our customer has high criteria. So, you have to work hard in his product.
(Critic) – I always do my worst performance in front of the critics.
(Edible) – When I visited them, they gave me some food. Frankly, I'm not sure that thing they gave me was edible
(Egocentric) – She is cute, I agree, but she is also a very selfish and egocentric person.
(Felicity) – This design is amazing. You must have done it with a great felicity.

Sorry for any mistake.
Thank you very much dear sister. This contest was really fun and useful.
I'm very sad because this is the last part.

We are waiting for your next topic.

Bye

It's better to say NOTICES instead of KNOWS because everyone can know your faults but only critics notice them, but your is correct

;)

3-this an apple is edible for eating, but don't forget to clean it.

Without AN because you already used THIS

Correct +1

4-Lmia is too egocentric. She dosn't love even her mother.

Correct +1

5- I like felicity stories, because I am very sensitive boy.

You used felicity here as an adjective, it's a noun, the adjective is filicitous - 1/4

:02:

You could say for example:

I love stories filled with felicity

or

I love felicitous stories

Got it? :)

At the beginning of this topic you can check the differences between parts of speech in my 4rth reply on this thread
