Javier Pedro Saviola (born December 11, 1981 in (Capital and largest city of Argentina; located in eastern Argentina near Uruguay; Argentina's chief port and industrial and cultural center) Buenos Aires, (A republic in southern South America; second largest country in South America) Argentina) is an Argentine (Any of various games played with a ball (round or oval) in which two teams try to kick or carry or propel the ball into each other's goal) football player.

He made his debut for Argentine side (Click link for more info and facts about River Plate) River Plate at the age of 16, and went on to be a prolific goalscorer and develop a reputation as a phenomenal prospect.

Saviola starred in the 2001 edition of the (Click link for more info and facts about World Youth Cup) World Youth Cup, held in (and won by) Argentina. He was top scorer and was voted player of the tournament. That summer, he moved on to (Click link for more info and facts about FC Barcelona) FC Barcelona where he had two irregular seasons, as coaches ( (Click link for more info and facts about Louis Van Gaal) Louis Van Gaal and later (Click link for more info and facts about Frank Rijkaard) Frank Rijkaard) were not impressed with his abilities, and did not allow Saviola to become a staple of the team.

Under coach Marcelo Bielsa, Saviola had few playing opportunities for Argentina, but after Bielsa's resignation in 2004, new coach José Pekerman has given Saviola more play.
