.::The Masque of the Red Death::.
Abridged by Digerati
A fatal, hideous "Red Death" had devastated the country. It had symptoms as sharp pains, dizziness, and bleeding at the pores with dissolution. Scarlet stains forbid anybody to help him as it was contagious. This horrible disease needed no more than 1/2 an hour to kill a man.
Seeing this, sagaciously and cleverly, Prince Prospero summoned a 1000 friends and knights, and accommodated them in one of his castellated abbeys, an extensive, outstanding structure, with a big wall and gates of iron, which left the place secluded so that the "Red Death" can never ingress or egress by any means. It was fully prepared grandly to seem fit for his guests, which felt truly welcomed by the buffoons, dancers, musicians, women, and wine.
Ironically, on the 6th month, while the pestilence raged abroad, the prince planned a magnificent masked ball, it was voluptuous.
There were 7 imperial suites, decorated in an extraordinarily bizarre manner by the prince, with sharp turns every few yards, and Gothic windows, whose color was of no accordance with the hue of the chambers… there was a blue room, another was purple all over, a 3rd was green throughout, the 4th furnished and lighted with orange, the 5th was white, the 6th violet, but all is fine except the 7th chamber.. it was closely shrouded with black tapestries and carpet, but the panes were scarlet–a deep bloody color. There was no light, but a dim light was projected from a tripod bearing a brazier of fire. All in all this produced a wild look on those bold enough to enter the room…
It was in this room, as well, that there stood a gigantic, enormous clock of ebony. It's pendulum would strike every hour, and when it did, a strident and clear sound echoed throughout the castle, forcing everyone to pause and cease their actions… left confused and worried these people would be alarmed of the fact that their time is getting shorter.. Every time the clock would sound the gay, happy atmosphere would be disturbed.. By midnight, there were 12 strokes to be sounded.
Amidst the masqueraders was a strange figure, this stranger didn't seem friendly, as it was tall and gaunt with habiliments of a corpse, he was dabbed in blood. Prince Prospero, terrified at first, angrily demanded the stranger to identify himself, ordering his knights to unmask him. No body dared to do that. It spread from room to room. There stood Prospero and his pale courtiers, as it invaded his 6th room. Then, he rushed carrying his dagger to the 7th room, and he approached the figure. As he got closer he suddenly dropped his dagger, and following that was his body, as he died. All the courtiers and knights threw themselves into the black apartment, dieing one after the other, while the figure stood erect and motionless, as if unbeatable. Now was it that the "Red Death" was acknowledged, as it had come like a thief in the night, dropping the lives one by one, exterminating the last of the gay, and expiring the flames, leaving Darkness and Decay dominating
