im not sure, but been hearing about Melty Blood's earlier incartions long before the Tsukihime anime(which IMHO didn't give the characters justice), the game is extremly popular in japan, in fact one of my friends was there around the time of release of Nejibako, GGXX/ and Melty Blood were played more than Nejibako

heard the game was broken, nowdays it's rare to see a non broken game =p i have yet to see some exploits in Samurai Tenka*very offtopic* lol

anyway, this game started off as a doujin Fighter i believe, and made it to the arcades o__O so the fan base must be really good
