مشاهدة النسخة كاملة : English Is Crazy

Let's face it

English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, no ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins were not invented in England nor French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies, while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.

We take English for granted.

But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? Is it not crazy that you can make amends but, not one amend? right

Nakkash : What;s what ?? You told me to get outta here
What date and time exactly it is that you want me gone

LOL Kidding man .. :) See you around

Dark Flame : English becomes more like a hobby ... you must force your self to use it at all times just so you become in a good level

Perfection in English is
I M P O S S I B L E
Still .. it is easy to learn if you are practicing well

Do we use "update" in situations and events too ? I mean we almost use it in softwares and hardware
I'm just wondering ...

About how to learn English, I think that we can use it in our life by saying short sentence when we are talking . It's more fast to learn when you love it not forced to .
Another way is to translate and trying to under stand the meaning in anything we buy ,,, such as coca cola ^^

sorry for disturbing ><

Like this topic very much ^^ thanks

Well I agree with you ... because a couple of days ago i was thinking
& I said the very same thing you've just said that if the plural of tooth is teeth then why it's not the same goes for booth....
Well yet i say sometimes you can figure it out by yourself....
Well sister how come you understand WAY better than arabic
Arent you an arabic woman ?
"if you consider my question as a personal one" please never mind it ok??

Best Regards
Mustafa

Mustafa: I have never been very clever when it came to Arabic lessons
I am good at reading
And at writing in Arabic ... Funny thing is.. I still can't seem to type very well

But, I prefer using English
Even in my thoughts
I can express myself better in English than I do in Arabic
