السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
I've been thinking lately about whats everyone's story in learning the English Language
I mean we weren't born with the English tongue
We all Arab and we have experienced alot of difficulties in learning English
And for that , I opened this thread so everyone can tell us how did he/she reached the level he has in English
?Whats your story in learning the English Language
!If you guys dont mind
Iam going to start with mine
-------------------------------------------------
Four years back, actually in the 23rd of August 2003
I had to travel to South Africa with my family for dad's business
One month after we arrived there, Mom and my elder brothers did'nt like staying away from home
So they went back and I stayed with dad and my step-mom
I tell you the day I arrived there I knew nothing about something :D called English
!!! I even couldn't distinguish between He and She
:blackeye: ...You won't be so amazed if you studied in my country
....Anyway
I went to school, and you know students just come by and start making up conversations
Surely I didn't understand a word they said, It was so hard for me to comunicate with anybody there except my dad
:D !I thought of going back, and if I stayed I would just be as dump
But well, with dad's and step-mom's encouragement I decided to work so hard at least to get started
I started to write every word I hear down and then worked on translating all day, I didn't care much about Afrikaans which is the second language in school unless I understand the first one
Things went better by time and started to get what my friends try to say, I tried to talk but they couldn't understand most of it
:biggthump I worked harder on Vocabulary and listening, and I just made it
:) ...........And here Iam
That was my story in learning Enlgish
;) ?What is yours
See you

nice way to learn English I mean the hard way is the best... well, not always.
my story is that I love learning new languages, I satart learning English the moment I have learned how to write arabic my sister taught me the ABC's and so I went on I used to watch american movies or showes or cartoons not translated with my sister I couldn't understand half of the thing but I didn't care. howeve I think the thing that really really helped improve to this point was my sister in low she is American and we are best friends I know I am breaking all the laws about families in low by being her friend but what can I do , we both share one thing we LOVE reading so I read books in arabic and she reads it in English and so finally she asked me if I want to try and read a book in English and so I started reading books in English I was really really improved by this. although I owe my sister in low and a couple of friends my English language I believe it is about the well because I know I didn't reach this without my well to be good in English.
Thank you Nakkash it is a nice topic
and I think your story is nice too, thanks for sharing it.

Hey Ahmad & Amal you guys became best buddies LOL
Anyway...
It's a really nice & good thread I'm sorry for not dropping by earlier
You know, I've been busy with the preparation for my trip
However, My story is so simple, Due to some harsh circumstances
I've never been taught the language in a school
But 3 & half years ago, My older sister asked my older whom just got home from a long trip to America & others countries, He had his bacholer degree & His master too outside the country
However my sister dragged me with them
& I'll let your great imagination's ability to figure out how a guy who doesn't know the alphabet look like among a bunch of people who're speaking English perfectly
For me I only had 3 classes Oh being kicked out in one of them
Because I kept fooling around& joking Or making fun of them..
A few months later I added that great Muslim Canadian guy
& Kept torturing him with idiotic mistakes like
I doing butter?
"trying to say"
Am I doing any better?
The guy bore up with me & Thank Allah I'm who I'm
This's my stupid boring story
Glad to hear out yours
Mustafa

Hello there
Nice stories everybody
Very interesting
About me
I have been interested in English ever since I was 3 years old
I was living in london for medical treatments
and I was just a kid but I was a very curiouse one
I always wondered why those people speak in a way that differs greatly from mine
My mom was very good in english and she taught me the alphabet and bought me some cassettes with children tunes
I used to buy lots of coloring books
the ones with writings on them like
"umbrella"
underneath a picture of an umbrella
and so on
I turned 6 and started officially learning English at school
which turned out to be just a little bit helpful
I owe my language to all the music I used to listen to
the books I used to read and the movies and TV shows I still watch
The internet also helped me majorly
I started my own blog in english and used to read alot which helped to improve my tone and accent
I think thats about it
No thanks to school
:D

thanks a lot for sharing
&
by the way all the stories are great
thank you all for sharing
------------------
I'll tell you my story with english ^^
::
I started learning french when I was four
and I didn't start studying english
until I became seven years old
so it was very easy for me to learn english
because english & french have a lot of similar words
in another word they have a lot of points in commun
except the pronounciation...
In addition to that my mom was an English teacher
so she really helped me a lot studying it
Indeed it's my mom's help which
encouraged me to study English & french.
moreover I used to go to an English & french center
during my childhood
And I'm not going to forget mentioning
the important role of school , my teacher at school
and reading books ,novels , stories in english
that's my story with English
^^
:)
