Make over 2000+ gold per day!
Updated for WotLK 3.0.9. In the following guide I’ll teach you how to make an easy 2000-3000 gold per day with only about 45 minutes of work.
I’ll assume you’ve already got your Jewelcrafting up fairly high, let’s say 440. I’m not going to get into specifics on how to powerlevel your way up that high, but if you check out this website (http://www.wow-professions.com/wowguides/wow_jewelcrafting_leveling_guide.html), they’ve got a pretty good article on how to get you from 1-450.
Let’s get started. First we need a solid amount of patterns for each blue gem color. Ideally you want two or three solid sellers from each category so you can increase your sales and turn over inventory as fast as possible.
Watch your auction house to see which gems tend to sell the quickest and for the best price. Always check for patterns you don’t have and pick them up when they’re 10-15x the price of the cut gem.
The cuts I use the most often are:
Red: Bold Scarlet Ruby, Delicate Scarlet Ruby, Runed Scarlet Ruby
Blue: Solid Sky Sapphire, Stormy Sky Sapphire
Yellow: Smooth Autumn’s Glow, Rigid Autumn’s Glow, Thick Autumn’s Glow, Mystic Autumn’s Glow
Orange: Inscribed Monarch Topaz, Champion’s Monarch Topaz, Glinting Monarch Topaz, Glimmering Monarch Topaz
Purple: Glowing Twilight Opal, Purified Twilight Opal
Green: Sundered Forest Emerald, Jagged Forest Emerald, Misty Forest Emerald
Meta Gems: Chaotic Skyflare Diamond

Prospecting time!
Ok so now we’ve got all of our recipes and it’s time to start cutting! Wait we need gems, where do we get them!? To make truly awesome amounts of gold you have to stop mining Saronite. That’s right, forget it, never mine another Saronite vein ever again. The Saronite we’re going to prospect is on the hiding on the Auction House.
On my server (Stonemaul) Saronite Ore fluctuates between 20-25 gold per stack. Watch your AH and buyout all the stacks you can when it drops low. If Saronite is currently expensive, use the trade channel to look for sellers and let them know you’re looking to buy bulk.
Time to prospect! To speed things up head into the interface menu and check the box that says Auto Loot. This way you can simply right click on the ore and it will loot the gems for you.
After you prospect the 40-50 stacks of ore you’ll have a nice little pile of blue and green gems. You can vendor the sun crystals and the huge citrines. The chalcedony, shadow crystals, and dark jades tend to sell well in stacks of twenty on the auction house. The bloodstones you’ll want to make into bold and runed bloodstones and hopefully get a few perfect (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=55534) ones.
So now that we’ve gotten rid of the green gems it’s time to deal with the blue ones. If you’ve prospected 50 stacks of Saronite you should easily have enough blue gems to create one of each gem on your great sellers list. Unless you have a cut that has little to no competition (like the world drop cuts) you don’t want to post too many of the same gem. The reason for this is that the deposit on gems is very high and you can easily lose 4-5 gold on deposits just by being undercut.
Auction House time!
So once you’ve created one of each gem it’s time to post them on the auction house. ALWAYS use the 12 hour duration since the deposit is only 67 silver and if you get undercut after you log off, you won’t lose the full 24 hour deposit of 1 gold 35 silver. Since we’re going to be selling hundreds and hundreds of these gems, the deposit fees for not selling your item can add up!
If you’re posting gems on the Friday or Saturday night (when most people get new gear) you can probably throw up 2 of each gem and you won’t get undercut.Tuesday afternoons after people get their new arena gear is a great time to throw up a few of each gem as well.
If you’ve posted 1-2 of each gem and you still have a bunch leftover of a particular color, throw them up on the auction house uncut. We want to take whatever profits we can get as quickly as possible so we can buy another 50 stacks of Saronite. You should easily be able to double or triple your gold each time you complete a cycle of prospecting and auction housing.
A few common questions...
What happens if I get undercut?
So you posted a few purified twilight opals and you got undercut by a couple of gold, no big deal. Add the undercutting jewelcrafter to your friends list and wait until he logs off or leaves the city. Since your deposit is now lost, it’s time to cancel that auction! You can now repost and undercut him by a few silver. There is no point in leaving up a gem that isn’t the best price. The trick to turning over gem inventory quickly is constantly cancelling your auctions
What about Icy Prisms?
The Icy Prism can be great, especially since it has a chance of dropping a Dragon’s Eye, which usually go for at least 100-200 gold a piece. Buy frozen orbs cheap and in bulk. If a dragon’s eye is only selling for 100g and the frozen orb is 80g, it’s probably time to forget about the Icy Prism for a while.
What about Meta Gems?
For the most part I tend to ignore metas gems. Since we can’t get them from Saronite we have to track down alchemists and get the raw materials from them. Most alchemists I know have their JC buddies cut them piles of meta gems so you’re competing with Alchemists and Jewelcrafters for a few gold. Meta gems only fit into head items and the head isn’t as easily replaced so the market for meta gems isn’t that hot. I’d suggest you ignore them; it probably isn’t worth your time.
So that's it!
Hopefully this guide helps you acquire vast amounts of World of Warcraft gold that you can spend on awesome things like mammoths with vendors and rings that teleport you to Dalaran! Good luck!
