8.0 Presentation
The interface is easy to navigate and menus and style is appropriately second century. KOEI's decision to include an in-game glossary and tutorial that can be accessed whenever is a huge improvement.
5.5 Graphics
The CG in the intro is about as good as it gets. And though the visuals in every aspect of the game are an improvement over the seventh one, its detail and animation is barely superior to its cousin.
7.5 Sound
Like all the games in the series the soundtrack is terrific, but the audio effects are just barely above what we listened to on our SNES. There isn't any digital surround support either.
9.0 Gameplay
The A.I. even on normal level is more than formidable, and with so many different ways to play, there's a ton of nuances and skills you'll need to learn. Almost perfect but we miss micro-management.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
Select from any period in the Three Kingdoms era, play special scenarios, create your own characters, use historical or fictional guidelines, and unlock plenty of extras. No two games are ever alike.
