Evening all.
Gameplay - a noticeable step up from PES2010. The pass system is so natural you wonder how you did without it. Makes play feel far more fluid and natural, rather than the old routine of feet-to-feet passes until a gap emerges. Jon described the passing build-up style as the target they're looking for with the gameplay, and it's still being worked on.
CPU players will look for space (and more often than before will point ahead of themselves or otherwise gesture for it), however I saw a few instances where they'd start to make the run, but then by the time you'd made space for the pass, they were heading back.
Game speeds - as you probably know, there's a choice of 5 speeds, from -2 to 0 to +2. We mostly played on 0, but I'd liken +1 to PES4 and -1 to PES5 - definitely something for everyone.
Plenty of new animations (eg. several new ways for players to fall over after being fouled), seems to be a few new celebrations too (I saw Ronaldo do a weird one where he ran to the crowd with an angry look, the jogged backwards a little and stood statue still - hopefully that's him intentionally antagonising the fans rather than screwy code, as it was pretty cool!)
Skills - I'm sure most of you found the majority of skills redundant, but that may change. What has changed is they're far easier to pull off - generally combinations of the right stick with R2, though the trick moves aren't finalised yet - and still incredibly useful at the right time, even for someone of my limited ability. Unfortunately after years of playing 360, I found the L3 and R3 buttons on the PS3 pads a little sensitive, and so picked up several yellow cards on my way to confirming there is most definitely a way to dive...
Defending - this is the aspect I noticed the most, and what impressed me the most: defenders are given the respect and ability they're due. Centre backs really physically muscle their opponents off the ball, and hold them off to gain space to clear. Plus very rarely will you see a winger brush past a full back with ease. When the ball reaches the last third, it finally feels like a fair fight.
Plus full backs are definitely full backs, and centre backs definitely centre backs - I didn't notice any drifting out of position unless I'd called a player over for pressing.
Goalkeepers are currently worse (way worse) than in PES2010, but Jon assures us they have been specifically improved in the latest code (which we definitely did not see). I don't think I saw a "good" save, and I saw plenty of shots from angles go in high at the near post, and scored a mildly swerving 30 yard shot where the keeper didn't even move. The 'cheat' free kick bug is still there, beating the keeper at the near post (the Germans are good at that one). Their animations are improved for things like one-on-ones however ('starfish' saves), and they release the ball a little quicker after they (finally) save the ball too. Definitely an area to keep an eye on.
Referees are too strict (again, being worked on). Penalties are the same angle, but with the emphasis on placement over power.
It doesn't look as though replays will be fixed from the perspective of date/difficulty details, or the ability to upload them (I forgot to ask Jon about uploading - will try to get an answer), but the new motion blur looks nice... if an acquired taste.
Match stats weren't yet in the after game screen of the code we played, but a nice touch is that updates to the stats will flash up briefly below the score during game, eg. after the replay of a shot, you'll get an update of shots on/off target, etc.
Err, what else - lots of combinations of untucked shirts/long sleeves for those of you who would die without them. And speaking of matters of life or death, they've made no changes to the nets...
Last but not least, the Game Plan page. Absolutely superb. Drag a player into place, then click a button and set his role. Such a natural way of changing the formation - reminded me of dragging players about in Champ Man.

Q. Have player stats changed?
A. I wrote down some stats for C.Ronaldo and W.Rooney from PES2011 and comparing them they seem to be the same. Stats maybe something that is worked on later not sure.
Q. Are attacking players making enough runs into space to make use of the free passing?
A. Yes they make a lot more runs compared to PES2010. Also the Team Style settings make more of a noticeable difference so if you set player support high then you will see a lot more runs.
Q. Is using tricks with right analogue as intuitive and easy to use as in previous FIFA games?
A. Im not a big player of FIFA or tricks tbh. But I did try using the tricks in PES2011 and they was effect but not all the time. If timed right and you lean to use them correctly then they are awesome. Only down side is all players seem to be able to do them. I pulled of a trick and went past a player with Vidic. But they were a lot easier with the likes of Messi for sure
Q. What are your thoughts on the keepers, ref's, shooting from distance, use of outside of the foot for shooting and passing, free kicks, chip's/lob's, lofted through balls and also see if there is a curling button (like R2 for curling shots etc)
A. Keepers made a lot of mistakes and got beat easily quite often. But I did see quite a few new animations that looked awesome and my keeper and opponents keeper did pull of a few good saves. The refs made quite a few mistakes calling fouls when it was a clean challenge and no foul when a clear foul, with regards to animations the refs look a lot better. Both the above Jon Murphy spoke to use about before we started playing and explained in the latest code he has they are vastly improved and they are still working on at the moment. Shooting from Distance seems very good and you seemed to be able to get a lot of power behind the ball. I managed to score 2 FKs one was poor GKing and the other there was nothing the GK could have done. I only tried one or two chip shots and seemed very similar to PES2010 to me. Lofted through balls seem improved and when you got the correct power and direction would fall exactly where you wanted it to go. R2 shooting also seemed improved and seemed to curl more like old PES.
Q. What’s the advantage rule like and offside situations. Do the refs stop the game, although you have the ball and the opponent can't get to it?
A. The ref played advantage a few times and also missed a few opportunities to do so overall it is a improvement over PES2010 but I feel still needs some work.
Q. How does volleying feel?
A. I had a few volleys. Some went in or on target others was skied but down to my own fault trying to smash them. If you get the correct power then you will see some beautiful goals this year
Q. Do players still header the ball instead of volleying?
A. This is a thing that annoyed me very much in the latest PES instalments but today I did not get annoyed and feel the players always make the correct decision weather to volley or header
Q. Please compare PES to FIFA, and who you think will take the crown?
A. Tbh I’m not a big FIFA player and have always stuck by PES. Also would not be fair to judge PES2011 against FIFA10.
Q. What is the atmosphere like?
A. I saw the crown react a few times when getting near the opponents goal by standing up and such. Also I heard the crowd shouting things out a lot more. It’s hard to judge the overall Atmosphere as the code we played did not include any commentary.
Q. Watch out for any imperfections and comment on what you feel Konami need to do to have a perfect game this year?
A. The only real problems I have with the game are the same as most people who have played it have those being Keepers and Refs and a few dodgy animation transactions and of course the penalty system.
Q. Do players still hover in off side positions?
A. I did not notice that in this code and there was not many off sides called.
Q. Can you use more than one player in Master League?
A. The main focus with ML this year is in the Online version as offline had a overhaul last year for PES2010 so I would say not but ML was not available for us to play so maybe a question that you should put forward to Jon Murphy.
Q. Is the penalty system fixed this year?
A. Not as of yet no. But Jon Murphy confirmed that it is currently been worked on but expect the Camera angle to remain the same as PES2010
Q. How long did it take to get use to the new passing system?
A. To get use to it not that long to be honest. After the first half you start to understand what it is all about. But to master well that could take a while. I started to pull of some nice passes towards the end but there was also some lose passes in there to through no fault of the AI just my poor passing.
Q. Was the shooting more free like the passing
A.The shooting has improved over PES2010 with the added help of the new animations and is more free to make it feel more realistic than last year but I would not say as free as the passing. But it does feel great to score again in PES like the emotions of the PS2 days.
Q. What master league improvements is there this year?
A. As above Konami main focus is online ML this year as the offline ML got a overhaul last year. There maybe a few changed and improvements but none confirmed as of yet.
Q. What was weather effects like, does it change during a match and have they bought back snow?
A. PES2011 will not feature dynamic weather conditions and wont feature snow. Jon Murphy said they want to get normal game play spot on before they start messing with it to reacted to different weather conditions.
Q. Do low skilled players for example a lot of defenders do that slow 90 degree turn. Which often leads to losing the ball?
A. No did not see that once today. Thank god
Q. Do players try to keep the ball in by stretching or sliding like PES on PS2 back in the day and like I believe FIFA does?
A. I did not see that happen no.
Q. In the trailer we have seen a number of times players jumping over a pass so it goes to a player behind or so on. Is this automatic or do you press a button to make the player jump?
A. That did happen a few times today to me looks good but it is automatic as far as I know there is no button to trigger it.
Q. The photographers etc, Around the sides of the pitch, Are they still 2D holograms?
A. Very similar to PES2010 but more detail.
Q. What Cup Libertadores Teams are included?
A. In the code we played only 5 but lots more expected in final build.

It has finally worked. Play a good five hours of intense PES2011 are behind me and I got a first, a very good overview of what we will expect in October. As I summarize here my notes and try to give you a good overview as possible and to collect my impressions, it tingles still belong in the fingers.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 is the game that we wait for PES fans for some years. Since the jump to next-gen in my opinion there was not really impressive version more and gaped after PES6 for me personally a big gap in the series.
In this PES6 footsteps now enters the new part, and I can sum up: The game is not perfect. But it is incredibly well and you will love it.
I could you even as your comment to a PES-column edge change or via Twitter aspects on their way to which I should pay special. I did that and so I will now describe in the following part my impressions on each sub.
First of a few conditions: the version I've played, is much more recent than the code that was presented at E3. Nevertheless, it will be up in about four weeks to gamescom once a much more developed version. 19 teams were playable. Including seven national teams (including Germany and the Netherlands), 6 club teams (including Real Madrid and Manchester United) and six clubs in the Copa Libertadores. It is unfortunately not possible for me to show you videos. We were asked to make any video or screenshots targeted because the version is simply a presentation for the trade press and in a few places still just hooks. This is normal practice for games, which are still under development and no later than the gamescom, there's a wealth of video material.

10) Graphics
The graphics are stunning on the Playstation 3. We played to distinguish such a huge HD screen and set up as the national anthem, the players have had to do it in the quality of the textures and player faces no more of a TV broadcast. PES2010 was really good, but PES2011 puts a shovel in some places again on top.
11) K.I.
Most games I have played against other colleagues in the PES-scene because it was just exciting. But also against the K.I. I've played some games and it has a course to the other 10 players in one game does not control other, positive. Overall, I find the K.I. in order. The computer thinks proper part in attacks. Impressed but not by sensational run good routes. After all, it is widely criticized "running on rails disappeared. The walking paths are individual, but not quite round. Too often, one must embark on a 1vs1 or stopping, because no scan options are available. In particular, the double pass is the player who has played the first pass are simple. It still needs something to work. The attacks of the K.I. in single-mode are neat and varied than in the past.
12) Atmosphere & cutscenes
Somehow I was not particularly impressed with the atmosphere. She was solid and not disruptive. I probably hidden details, because I simply concentrated on the gameplay. There were no significant crowd chants as the monotonous "Liverpool, Liverpool" from PES2010. I can not tell from other songs. This may be because many chants were still not integrated.
In the scenes of celebration there were indeed new animations but by and large it remains the same. Since my opinion was not really something to be changed to it.
A real highlight is the national anthem to start an international match. This makes a great mood for the upcoming match.
13) Ball Physics
The ball physics are very realistic in passports. Since there is absolutely nothing wrong with it and so, as it should be. If shots it works for me something funny. It seems as if the balls would fly a little slow motion. It is only a tiny difference. On a good and realistic flight path changes nothing, but in the overall package something bothers me the way how the ball flies. It does not quite clean.
14) Response
The delay from crass PES2010 has disappeared. The players will respond much faster to the actions. You run the commands directly. Nevertheless, one has the feeling that the game itself has lost its slowness is not everything. Many animations are exported only to end up as Dribbling is initiated or a cross comes.
15) Different game speeds
In the test, there was only one speed on the game we played. This was the level "0". Therefore, I can say at this point nothing about the different game speeds.
16) Levels
There was only one default difficulty. This was the middle level "Advanced". Especially in the first game of PES2011 what a challenge. If you get used to PES2011, "Advanced likely be" only for the least of a challenge.
17) Liquid Game
Unfortunately, the game hides still on at free kicks and interjections. After that the players continue to beam through the area and change their positions. This was unfortunately not last. It is in part not as extreme as in 2010, but still disturbing and one hopes that it would continue on with interjections like a quickly taken free kick. This is a shame.
18) Winner of headers
This is the trend is more towards FIFA. Not quite as pronounced and dynamic but ordinary header duels are guaranteed. As mentioned in the flanks, one has to establish itself before climbing up to the header the best possible starting position by the ball is good. This is the outcome of the subsequent duel in the air decisive.
19) Swallows
Furthermore, in the game. The referee comes but rarely into it. It must be timed quite precisely to make it work. I could not cope. A colleague was able to but now and then flayed a free-kick. With practice, the chances are about 50:50, when one uses it in the correct combat situations.
20) Free kicks
To kick-system, I can not say as much as I did not get as many free kicks. But it seems to have become a little easier to take a free kick too. The least the general tenor in our lap. In this version you could not move the wall, nor dazustellen player. This simple free-kick hit a two-man version was possible. Jon has assured us, however, that this bug is fixed and it also give more benefits to the defending team is.
21) Penalty
In the trial, it was still the old penalty system. But Jon has been announced for the final version of an improved system where more emphasis should be placed on precise targets.
22) Camera
The new standard camera fits perfectly into the game. This looks like a real TV broadcast, then it has the policy goal is already achieved.
23) Weather
In the version that we were allowed to play was more beautiful sunshine. In addition, Jon has announced that there will be no dynamic weather. By "dynamic" is a change of weather is called during the game (eg onset of snow in winter). That would be too much effort for the entire engine and once the focus is placed on the gameplay. These features may be incorporated in later parts again.
24) Network Physics
Loose networks like in PES2010. Since nothing has changed. One like it, not the other, the third it does not matter. Are certainly more important points.
25) Miscellaneous
Finally, very briefly in brief, some more issues:
- Players no longer a freeze on free kicks in the wall. This means that they are at a pass in the attacking team to control more quickly and you do not have to wait for the call.
- Under the clearer scoreboard during the game there are always little statistics: eg Foul on free kicks as the statistics of date, or were fired at goal kicks which team how many shots at the respective box.
- The throw-in behavior is divided. On the one hand, the thrower is too long to be out of bounds, so the ball will be accepted only with a direct back pass out of bounds, on the other great passes in the course are now open.
- In the replay mode, there are many many scenes a motion blur effect, which is intended to express dynamics. The whole thing is a matter of taste.
Such actions as the trip to London are very expensive and we have eg extra for the trip and the upcoming gamescom us a suitable electronic equipment with HD-Cam and many other small things grew. We would appreciate genuine when it helps us to fund this project. Thank you!
