Kellogg’s praises ministry’s action
over cornflakes cancer rumors
KELLOGG'S 22 April 2001
The Saudi Press Agency has reported that the Ministry of Health has confirmed the safety of all Corn Flakes products and denied any links to information, which appeared in earlier reports claiming that cornflakes products caused cancer, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
In response to the misleading reports, a Health Ministry spokesman said that cornflakes are still being served in American restaurants and hotels, and constitute an important meal for children, a claim supported by scientific research.
A spokesman for Kellogg’s, the world’s leading cornflakes manufacturer, said: “We are very happy that the Saudi Ministry of Health has taken this action, which we hope will go some way towards correcting the misinformation.
In support to the Ministry’s statement, Kellogg’s wishes to reaffirm its heritage and continued commitment to superior nutrition through the production of healthy foods.”
“The benefits of eating a diet rich in cereals, vegetables, and other fibre-rich food products, for protection against heart disease and cancers - are well documented and advocated by numerous health professional organizations around the world,” he added.
