How are you going to get exactly 4 gallons?
You have two jars. One can contain at most 3 gallons, the other jar can contain at most 5 gallons. You will get water from the river and your goal is to get exactly 4 gallons. So the question remains, how are you going to get exactly 4 gallons of water? Take your time to think about it!

i know i know

take the 3 gallons jar and fill it with water then pour it in the 5 gallons jar

re-fill the 3 gallons jar and pour it in the 5 gallons jar again which will leave one gallon of water in the 3 gallons jar

now empty the 5 gallons jar and pour the one gallon of water to it from the 3 gallons jar

at last fill the 3 gallons jar with water and pour it in the 5 gallons jar that already has one gallon of water

and you will have exactly 4 gallons of water

Guys I didn't get it!

I'm not usually that slow but why bother and do so if we can simply fill the 3-gallon jar with 2, and the 5-gallon with 2, or just fill the 3-gallon completely and fill the 5-gallon with 1, there weren't any rules or conditions in the riddle to have 4 gallons
?Or did I misunderstand it? Would you please explain further

yeah but how do you know that you exactly filled 2 gallons in the 3 gallons Jar or 2 gallons in the 5 gallons Jar
its like this

1. Fill up the 3 gallon jar, and pour it into the 5 gallon jar.
2. Fill up the 3 gallon jar again and pour it in the 5 gallon jar until that one is full.
3. There is 1 gallon left. Empty the 5 gallon jar and put that 1 gallon in.
4. Fill up the 5 gallon jar with 3 gallon.
5. 1+3 = 4 gallons.

as you see you just need to use your brain nothoing else could be used , you cant measure it by any thing,
