Don't get angry .... I hate these silly mistakes


Some people might think that I am trying to show off , but honestly speaking I am not. Why should I do so ? I do not have to show off at all. However , I feel sick and get furious each time I see these mistakes..........

So , I hope that all my sisters and brothers will be tolerant enough to listen to advice concerning a very common mistake that can be seen every now and then. From time to time , we need to add the letters (-ing ) to the end of a verb .. This is , of course , a very easy thing to do . Yet , many people , not knowing the rule , make these silly mistakes .

The rule is quiet simple .... Verbs which end with a final silent ( e ) in other words ( e ) that is not pronounced such as ( live - drive - like - hate - arrive - take ...... etc ) we simply drop the ( e ) before adding ( ing ) so have the verbs with ( - ing ) added in the following way : ( living - driving - liking - hating - arriving - taking - giving ............. etc )

Of course , there are some verbs such as ( see - be ) where the final ( e ) is pronounced . In this case , we do not have to omit the final (e). So , It is written like that : ( seeing - being ) .I hope this is clear and I also hope that my remarks will not upset some friends.... My love and respect to all of you ...

Joe, what you've mentioned is pretty common, and we all thank you for pointing that out specially for those who do not know the rule or those who aren't aware of it
But I don't understand why that makes you furious? I know that you didn't literally mean that because there are things that irritate me mysef
But it was better if you didn't mention the fury part, we all have mistakes, and none of us would like it if someone gets angry because of what we do not know or not aware of
I thank you once again, it's really important and I hope everyone reads it and do not make this mistake again

Naughty Angel , thanks a lot for writing. I agree that we all make mistakes.... The British themselves sometimes make mistakes. But why shouldn't we try to be as accurate as possible?????????? I don' t think it is something hard to do if we really wanted to use sound correct English. The reason behind my fury is that all the time I tell and train my pupils to drop the final ( e ) when adding ( -ing) but it is most of the time in vain. I enjoy hearing , seeing and reading correct nice English..

I agreed with that in my previous reply, and I told you it's ok to get angry because there are things that make each one of us furious, and of course it's a good thing pointing them out, I only think that it was better not to mention that these mistakes make you furious because no one wants others to get mad because of his mistakes
Specially that they are language mistakes I mean "grammar, spelling,,,etc" unlike capitalization and things like that, and that you mentioned this for the first time

it really doesnt need such an amount of attention
anyway
what i think is that those ppl who r making such mistakes r even better than us
we study Eng. academically
they dont
they r trying to improve their lang through practise and usage
i respect them
and when they make a mistake we should notify them,, politely

just imagine that we r talking about lang mistakes
not sins or crimes
just imagine that we r attacking them for such simple errors
that would really make me furious
i remember one of our techers
she is an American linguist
we used to talk to her
even when we were still young
i mean the first year at the univ
she would never get mad
i guess u can imagine those high school students
and u can imagine their lang
that was ours
and still,, she would answer us as if we've been speaking real Eng

i mean it
she would not even stop us
as long as she can understand us
she would never say this is wrong
coz she knows how much that would affect our feeling
and as a result our develpoing
......and now
we r ones of the best
thats how they build ppl
and i like that soooooo much

!!!!!!the disagreement wasnt about correcting ppl
i appreciate that u want to correct ppl, u want to help them
the disagreement was about the way we correct ppl
i dont think that u would like it when someone says to u
ur mistakes r driving me crazy
they r silly mistakes
i BELIEVE that u WILL be injuired
and thats what i meant
i know that i might be mistaken as not correcting the mistakes i see
but i just feel that not all ppl like it when u blame them for their mistakes
ppl think in different ways
and im not gonna hurt anyone's feelings coz of learning

about this teacher, she knows that correcting us means wasting the time and hurting the feeling
as the person improves, u can start to correct simple , few mistakes
but with what we were

and at the same time, we dont care if someone is showing off or not in the forum,,,,,,,,, we are here equal (sis & bro) --learning from eachother and trying to have a good time here
ur english is good mashallah and it looks like u r in love with the grammar

bas ,,,,,,,,,,,,,being good doesnt mean that everyone here should be good too,,,,, most of the ppl here are learning and trying to improve their english language,,,,,,so the mistakes u r talking about are expected
