Oozora Tsubasa is the main character. He was born as a soccer genius. He is currently playing for Sao Paolo FC in this game, and goes back to the Japanese national team.
Hyuga Kojiro is the toughguy of Toho Academy's soccer team. He is also one of Japan's best forwards.
Misaki Taro is considered to be Tsubasa's best friend. He is currently playing for Nankatsu High.
Wakabayashi Genzo, better known as the GSGK (Great Super Goal Keeper), is one of the best goalies. He can stop almost any kind of shot.
Misugi Jun is blessed with an unmatched soccer ability and cursed with a heart disease. He plays for the school of Musashi and the Japanese national team.
Matsuyama Hikaru, who plays for the school of Furano, demonstrates good abilities and wonderful leadership qualities.
Nitta Shun is the fastest runner for Japan and Nankatsu High School (although he doesn't have a speed advantage in the game).
The Tachibana Brothers, Kazuo and Masao, are twins. They have excellent combo techniques on the field.
Souda Makoto is a rough and powerful defender for Japan, and for team Tatsunami.
Jitou Hiroshi is the biggest and strongest player of Japan. Playing for Kunimi in Japan, he uses his size to his advantage.
Sawada Takeshi is the youngest player on the Japanese National team.
Wakashimazu Ken is both a good goalie and a master martial artist.
Ishizaki Ryou is the comic relief character; he is not very good at soccer, but demonstrates a phenomenal amount of effort.
Morisaki Yuzo is a generic goalie who plays for Japan and the school of Nankatsu. He is a substitute player for Japan.
Lennart is the goalie for Sao Paolo FC. (He is named "Renato" to other people; let's just refer to him as Lennart, because it's the ) NON-PLAYABLE RIVALS
Carlos Santana is pretty much Tsubasa's rival in this game. Playing for Flamengo, a Brazilian soccer club, he watches others' games to memorize others' playing styles and techniques, then uses this to his advantage. He is also one of Brazil's best players.
Karl Heinz Schneider is Germany and Europe's best player.
El Sid Pierre leads the French national team with a powerful offense.
Louis Napoleon backs up Pierre's offense.
Juan Dias calls himself the genius of Argentina, and he certainly has a right to think that.
Alan Pascal also plays for Argentina.
Herman Kaltz plays for Hamburg SV, in Germany.
Schester (full name unknown?) is another of Germany's players.
Arthur A. Coimbra is a mysterious player who plays for Brazil. He is their secret weapon and his teammates don't even know he's part of their team until the final game.
Meon is a goalie who plays for a Brazilian soccer club, Gremio. He feels Tsubasa gets too much attention and hopes to take Tsubasa down by stopping his shots.
