سؤال عن ing وما تفعله في الكلمة

السلام عليكم و ورحمه الله وبركاته
عندما تدخل ing إلى الكلمة تحدث فيها تغيير
فو كانت الكلمة تنتهي بحرف e نقوم بحذف هذا الحرف e ونضع بدلا منه ing
لكن مالم افهمه بعض الأحيان نقوم بمضاعفه الحرف الأخير مثل
Ther are running
لماذا قمنا بمضاعفه الحرف n هل هناك قاعدة

I will give you the correct answer:
It is true that if the word ends in "e" you usually remove the "e" and add "ing." Example:
move --> moving.
If the word ends in "i" you probably will also remove the "i" before adding "ing". (This almost never happens because very few English verbs end with "i." )

If the word ends with "a, u, or o" you DO NOT remove that letter before adding "ing". I can not think of any examples because this is also very rare, since most english verbs do not end with "a, e, i, o, or u".

Now, the important part, the reason why you add the extra letter before adding "ing" is because of the way the word sounds when you say it. For example:
sit --> sitting
because the word is pronounced
سِت + ing
and not
سَيت + ing
There is another word, "site," which becomes "siting," because this word is pronounced
سَيت + ing.
So basically, you need to know how the word is pronounced before you can know whether to double the letter before "ing." When the letter is doubled (tt, ff, ss, dd, etc.) it makes a short vowel sound; when the letter is single, it makes a long a vowel sound.
