Asslam Alikum,

Everyone heard about the famous book by Dan Brown, The Da Vinci Code. The main Characters are: Robert Langdon, Sophia Neveu, Bezu Fache, Silas and Leigh Teabing. The book is full with characters which might have a bigger rule in the story more than the reader may think, however, if I went on I am afraid one of you might come and shoot me... so you better find out by reading the book who is really main character and who is not!:)

The story starts as Sauniere, Sophia's grand father and the curator of the Louver dies and he shapes his body in a mysterious way, Langdon was called to explain the scene that Sauniere was found in. The story then goes on as Langdon finds out with some help of Sophia that he was the main suspect in this crime, although he has never met the victim in his life… Fache is the main investigator, who believes that Langdon is the one who killed the curator. creepy eh?

The story takes place in Pairs – France … it contain loads of information about the Christianity and if you don't know anything about this religion – like me – I suggest that you read something about it before you start this book.

Brown is a good author no doubt however he – as I noticed in The Da Vinci Code and Angel And Demons – gives too much information that sometimes the book lose it's interest, you wouldn't be able to see the characters of the people… You see in this book, the events goes really fast that you can't really know the personality of Langdon or Sophia, therefore you can't really determine whether you like them or not…. You only saw or read in this case about this person in one situation, dangers, You didn't see the person in other situations, happiness, sadness romance, anger… all the situation even the romance ones are determined by the fact that they are in an unusual dangers situation where a person don't act normally, Another thing about this exact point, the whole things happened really fast… I mean in two days! Honest to God.. two days…

Another point I didn't like about Brown, he gives too much information that it would be sometimes boring. He reminds me with a professor I once had, he talks and talks and never asks whether we got the point or not.. as we set there… pretending to be listening to him , we talk, draw, eat, sleep… do everything except listening to him. However in the exams every questions depend on his boring classes because between the boring lectures about anything but the subject, he gives you an information or two that is really important… Now this is how Brown works, too. He gives you boring facts about the past of samples and paintings and amaze you with the strong power to talk even in the worst situations and think right when you are in grave danger, he sneaks something in all of this that would really matter for the story, so you have to be tricky… and maybe take classes with my professor, you should try and skip the loads of crap and get what is important… unfortunately, you wont be able to tell when you read the book for the first time which parts are important and which is just punch of crap!

If you read the book after all what I said, I hope you like it.

Dude I think E-books are the most boring things in earth...
and if you want to kill me make me read an e-book
I might read an article but not a book , I have a friend who when she reads and have to stop - which drive me nuts- she marks the page with a pen, I guess she wouldn't be a big fan of books online either because she wont be able to mark the book with her pen!
you might find the book online it is pretty famous, however if you haven't noticed this I don't suggest on anyone to read that book, I mean it isn't bad, but I wouldn't recommended it!

thanks for passing by Nakkash

Salam, and greeting brothers and sisters.

I've read the novel about a year ago, It was really good in what it was supposed to be good in "suspense and page-turning". Albeit, I didn't like the whole "godlessness" thing, gotta give it to Dan brown's torrent of information though, as he makes you work out your brain in some situations.

I don't think that Dan Brown ignored emotions that much, as in a suspenseful atmosphere like DC's can't enforce emotions in it, there were some "hints" though, like when Langdon leapt over Sophie and there was this fleeting moment of attraction. Other themes of emotional connection are like the one between the priest and Sylas.

I thought DC was a good modern novel, despite my opposition for some of the ideas presented in it, it was very good.

Thanks for the interesting topic, bye.

I have to disagree with my friend Kubaj, about the characters thing
I still believe it wasn't possible to really know thier feelings
the example you gave about Langdon and Sophia is not more than a crash I mean.. honest to God the guy just met her and he fall in love with here already! not that I disrespect your opinion but I am not a big fan of the 24 hours stories or 48 hours sometimes, I mean I guess you have to have sometime with the characters so you would know them better
and I liked the story in general but not that much
they made such a fuss about it
what I liked it though about him and myabe I forgot to say it earlier.. that he is good in the gray characters such as Sylas.. the guy didn't want to be bad he was fighting what he thought was a fair and good case.. I think it is hard to write about such a characters
I mean I don't believe in pure Evil people do whatever they do even if it is wrong for a reason but they sometimes don't realize it is wrong
I agree though with you that he make you use your brain I mean not many authors can make the reader use their brains to find out the way in the novels..

thanks for passing by it was nice to see someone who read the story and it is nice to discuess it, too, I hope you don't take my disagreement personal
thanks again

Hello again Amal, I don't think it was a crush, because a crush requires someone to have some feelings for another person without explicitly exposing those feelings to that person. I think it was an attraction from first sight, and I can understand why you don't accept the fast-paced relationships, but there wasn't actually any, Langdon was naturally sympathetic with Sophie and that created an atmosphere of compassion between the two. However, I think the end of the novel is the start of their relationship.

I also don't think that a slow-paced plot would've helped the idea of the story, which was a thriller-mystery with suspense.

I mean come on, it's not "Wuthering Heights" to have a long build up.

Thanks to you to, I think this is the first time I discussed DC with anyone, have a good day.

Why read the book when you could just watch the movie?

Because the book is always better than the movie, and the movie didn't turn out to be a hit.

Kubaj I agree with you it might not have been a crush after all however I guess what you said is right about their realtionship would start in the end..
and I agree, too on that it wouldn't be as good as it is if the story was longer than 48 hours as it is
because then Langdon will be no longer a suspect which is a big part of the story and then everything will be reveal and the story would lose its strength, yet I am not a big fan of this kind of novles,
I never read "Wuthering Hights" I've heard its boring is it?? however I got what you mean about the " Long build up" have you ever read " Great Expectation " by Charles Dicknes I hate the book but you wouldn't understand why "Pip" would end up like that,
I also agree with you that the movie didn't turn out as good as the book
I still don't think the book is as good as the fuss they made about it..
anyway the movies made out of books aren't alwayes good
well, they are mostly not good
I mean have you ever seen "Harry Potter" ! they had to delete too much details that it turned out to be so slly

Wa 3leikum al salam.

Good afternoon Amal, I never saw the movie, but I heard it wasn't impressive.

Regarding "Wuthering Heights" It's not boring, It's one of my favorite novels, if not the most novel that had an effect on me.

Maybe whoever told you it was boring didn't like the "country-side" setting.

It's Romantic, dark and I liked the psychological aspect of it, it's so haunting.

Every time I think of the novel I feel some how a bit sad, you should really read it.

I also love Great expectations, I've read it in Arabic when I was a young kid, and then watched the movie which was surprisingly great, and I read it in English recently, I don't know what do you mean by how "Pip" ended up.

well, about the book you are talking about.. I think it is a romance book and I don't like romance... is it romance? I guess I should read it first before saying that whether its bad or good!
and about Pip I mean did you see how he turned to at the end I mean the kind of personality he had is not the same one he had before as a young
I think that what happened in our childhood is what makes us as adults..

I red DC about year ago and it was...Entertaining
it was entertaining and nothing more
if you ask me, this book is way too overrated
I liked Angels and Demons more than DC
one other thing and this time about Dan Brown
..I think he's just a writer wanna-be, you know
...its true he fills his books with LOADS and LOADS of info but
there is nothing memorable about his charcters
every charcter in his books is 2D
!!and that sucks
they are either plain good or pure evil
and thats just a bit too idealistic for my taste
I like enigmatic charcters
?you want a book recommendation
try Stephen King's Dark tower
its down-right awesome

Yes like you said DC is just entertaining...
I liked Angel and Demons more than DC, too..
and about Brown himself I don't know I didn't like him much too.. and the charecters well they are weired I mean I never got why does he keep telling us that Robert has a fear of small places I mean it doesn't do anything in the book and so on you see he put too much usless things about the charcters..
I've heard about Stephen King but I only found the fifth book of the dark tower..
how about " the wasted land" for king I want to get it it looks good?

Wa 3likum asslam, Amal
As a matter of fact, The Waste Land is the third book -out of 7- in the
magnificent epic tale that is: the Dark Tower.
I'm 100% a fan of this tale and its, with out a doubt, one of the best epic tales
out there.
I recommend this story nearly to anyone.
get the whole 7 books, and don't let them down of your hand till you
finish them all.
the way I see it, we should feel lucky, because some people kept waiting for the story to end about 30 years
.
.
I guess you can get all the 7 books from Virgin megastores
I got mine from there.

turns out I was rong and the man has quite a fan base
I mean there was Doctors and Engineers, people above the 40 and people
in my age, it was quite a relief actually, to know that I'm not the only wierdo
to read these books.
.
.
about him being funny, I like to think of him as Twain meets King
the man is hillarious, I can't help but to burst in laughs when ever I read
one of his book, and sometimes when I'm in a public place people give me this
look, like they feel sorry for me or something, I bet there thoughts goes something like this:"Oh. what a waste, yet another young man losses his mind
Oh, it must be the drugs" what they don't realize is I'm having a great time.
my roommate used to say, when ever he saw me reading a Ref3at Isma3il book: " Dude, one day you'll grow loco like the old geezer you read about!
