DIOGENES
There lived an old man in Greece in the old times. He was over seventy years of age . His eyes were sharp ,his back was bent , and he used to carry a lamp in his hand .
The lamp was lit even at noon . It is rather strange to carry such a lamp by day . People will think you a fool . But no body thought that of the old Diogenes .
He was a great philosopher . A philosopher is a deep thinker . He tries to understand life . If he succeeded , he would try to explain that to his people . He writes books for those who will come after his death .
philosophers are respected everywhere . Diogenes was one of those people . He used to walk in the streets with his lamp .
Nobody asked him why he kept that lamp .
One day a wise man of forty years stopped Diogenes and said , "O , Diogenes , I knew you are a great thinker . I too am not a fool , but I can not understand why you keep a lit lamp at noon . Do you look for something , old wise Diogenes ? I like to knew . "
The great philosopher said " That is true . I am looking for something . I carry my lamp to help me in that . I look for truth . "
"Did you find it among our people , ? " The old man asked . " No , I have not found it on this earth yet . And because of that I keep searching . " answered Diogenes .

في قديم الزمان عاش رجل عجوز في اليونان ، كان يبلغ من العمر سبعين عاما ، وكان نظره حادا وكان

ظهره منحنيا ، ولقد اعتاد على حمل مصباح في يده.

كان يحمل المصباح حتى في النهار ، انه امر غريب أن يحمل الانسان مصباحا في ضوء النهار ،سيعتقد الناس انه انسان غبي ، ولكن احدا لم يكن ليعتقد ذلك عن ديجونيز العجوز، لقد كان فيلسوفا عظيما

والفيلسوف هو الانسان المفكر، لقد كان يحاول فهم الحياة واذا نجح كان سيحاول ان يشرح ما فهمه للناس ، كان يكتب كتابا لهؤلاء الذين سوف يأتون بعد موته.

يحظى الفلاسفة باحترام كبير من الناس ، وكان ديجونيز واحد من الفلاسفة ، ولقد اعتاد ان يمشي في الشارع حاملا مصباحه ولم يكن احد يسأله لم يفعل ذلك .

ذات يوم استوقفه رجل حكيم في الاربعين من عمره وقال له : ديجونيز ، اعلم انك مفكر عظيم ، وانا كذلك ولست رجلا غبيا ولكني لم افهم لم تحمل معك هذا المصباح في النهار،هل تبحث عن شي يا ديجونيز الحكيم؟ انا احب ان اعرف.

اجاب الفيلسوف العظيم قائلا : نعم، انا ابحث عن شي ، انا احمل المصباح ليساعدني على الغثور عليه ، انا ابحث عن الحقيقة .

وهل عثرت عليها بين الناس ؟ ساله الرجل الحكيم ، اجاب ديجونيز : لا ، لم اعثر عليها في هذه الارض بعد ولذلك انا اواصل البحث.

OLYMPIC SUCCESS
On television, the young gymnast comes down from the uneven bars with little effort. She smiles toward the enthusiastic crowd and walks away with high scores. Then, the silver or gold medallist appears on the cover of “Sports Illustrated” or on television. It all seems to be easy and glamorous.

You don’t see it on television, but the road to Olympic success is a long one; and it is hard, physically, emotionally and financially. There is the stress of competition and the separation from loved ones.

Stacey has spent the last 13 years preparing for the Olympics. Today, the young athlete feels the pressure. Four years from now, she’ll be 21 and too old for the gymnastic competition in the Olympics. Even when very young, a dedicated athlete must practise or attend meetings five or six nights a week. This exhausting routine includes doing one’s homework in the car on the way to practice and sleeping on the way back. Her life is hectic… Three times a week, her trainers start working with her as early as 5:30 in the morning. Then she goes through the routine of uneven bars, floor exercise, etc. After that, she goes off to class at the public school next to the gym. At 4, she is back in the gym till 7:30, working on optionals or her own routine.

“Olympic competition is a family decision for most competitors,” says her Dad. “Without the support of their families, the gymnasts couldn’t become the great achievers they are.”
