i want to know how to do the setup for the ADSL in Linux

is it PPPoE or PPTP PPP ATM i just cant get is i got the eth0 and did not understand what it is i use SuSe 8.0 and i live in the uae my modem is a pci DSLI-800 from Genius


help please

i got this modem coz my old one the 4020 usb modem did not work on linux and the one after it 4060 did not work on linux too so i got this new modem that lots of people use for linux but i dont know how to se t it

bro , are u sure that modem is supported by linux? i went to to http://www.genius-europe.com/english/index.htm and they didnt mention that this modem is supported ...
if u can get any external modem and asure u they will work....
plus get a network card that supprted by linux such as d-link 528 tx, planet pci bus,or anyone that support linux.

the pci that i have dosn't have a driver for linux it's just that the OS can see the card plus that there are lots of people useing thes card for linux so i dont know how ?


i have 2 extarnal mpdems USB from Efficent Networks, Inc :

the speedStreem 4020 ADSL USB Modem and the speedStreem 4060 ADSL USB Modem

and thay bothe did not work with the linux os so what do i have to do to make it work ??

my computer got the dsl modem as a ethernet card shuld ??

what shuld i do from this point ??

for the UAE the VPI is 0 and the VCI is 100 shuld i put is as 0.100 or is there another way ??

hi bro.
i use adsl but i use extarnal modem "ARESCOM"
which i hadnt any problem at all and i never used pci modem niether usb modems, the external is so easy just u have to deal with the ethernet card..

i have 2 more extarnal modems with a UBS from a company called "Efficient Networks, Inc." the 2 that i have is:

1- SpeedStreem 4020 ADSL USB Modem

2- SpeedStreem 4060 ADSL USB Modem

if you can tell me or help me to set it up with ethernet card or with any thing just tell me how ??

and what type of cards shuld i use or how shold i use it ??

hi ,
bro extarnal modem dosnt mean USB, external are those that are can be connected to the net work card"ethernet" , usb is different and it need a driver to be installed, but the real external doesnt need any driver and has no releation with the OS....
the only usb modem that will work with linux as far as i know is aLCATEL usb modems..
but external always are better..
