Do you know what Islam really is?
No doubt, you have some of the same misconceptions about it which I had until I started researching this beautiful religion and way of life. Like many people, I thought Islam taught killing, hate and oppression of women. Now I have learnt that this is not the true Islam. Can I just tell you a bit about Islam? Keep an open mind..
The word 'Islam' comes from the Arabic triliteral root SLM, "submission" or "surrender," as well as "peace;" thus, the religion called "Islam" is grounded in the concept of peace in and through one's submission to the authority and will of Allah (the Arabic word for 'God'.)
A 'Muslim' is one who submits to the will of God and puts his/her trust in God completely.
Muslims believe God has NO associates, children, wives or equals of any kind, because He is far above needing to have these kind of parnters, and there is none other like God. As humans, we are nothing like God.
Islam teaches belief in the prophets sent by God as messengers to people on Earth. Bear in mind, Islam does NOT teach that these prophets should be worshipped, because the only one worthy of worship is God. Right from Adam, Abraham, through to Jesus and Mohammed (peace be upon them) all these messengers have brought the pure message to people that they should worship the one true God, and none other.
The Qu'ran is the final revelation from God, sent to all mankind for all of time. It is NOT just for one particular race, country or time, rather it is a book intended for EVERY human being on this Earth to read and consider. The Qur'an contains the most beautiful Arabic language, conveying messages of how we should live and what our purpose in life is. No human has been able to produce a verse equal to those in the Qur'an, and God challenges man in the Qu'ran: "Well then, if the Koran were his own [Muhammad's] composition other men could rival it. Let them produce ten verses like it. If they could not (and it is obvious that they could not), then let them accept the Koran as an outstanding evidential miracle" . There's so much more I can write about it, but if you want to reply and ask any specific questions, that'd be great.
