Nintendo tells the Korean publisher Webzen to back off, and they mean business.
Screenshots of a PC MMO called Wiki in development by the Korean company Webzen have excited quite a bit of interest in the online gaming communities. Recently, Nintendo revealed it's reaction to the pictures, proclaiming that the title is in violation of it's intellectual property for the GCN title The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker
As they have shown in the past, Nintendo does not take use of their likenesses lightly. The Kyoto based company has had previous conflicts with their copyright material; most notably involving former their former developer Rare. The company announced today that they were taking the "natural steps" in ensuring their intellectual property. Nintendo has yet to file a former suit against the Korean company, but they have commented that such a course of action could come in due time.
In the Korean newspaper JoongAng Daily, a spokesperson for Webzen said that "the number of variables [in terms of character design] are in the tens of thousand", and that "[they] are still in the middle of developing the game, which will begin closed testing services in December."
