Resolution and Flicker Reduction
[Resolution] and [Flicker Reduction] have been added as options under
(Internet Browser) > [Tools].
With these options, you can adjust Web page size for optimal viewing based on the PS3™ system’s video output resolution and reduce flickering of the screen when outputting in interlace mode.
ResolutionAdjust the screen resolution of the Web page.Flicker ReductionOn: Reduce flickering if it appears in characters, images or lines.
Off: Disable flicker reduction.
About the Resolution feature
When the PS3™ system's video output setting is at either 1080p or 1080i, if you set this option to [-1] or [-2], the display will be enlarged and will be easier to view. When viewing at 480i, set to [+1] or [+2].
About the Flicker Reduction feature
You can use this option to reduce flickering of a screen that is displayed in interlace mode. Set this option to [On] when 1080i, 720i or 480i (Standard(NTSC)) is selected as the video output resolution on the PS3™ system. If displaying in progressive mode at 1080p, 720p or 480p, the option should be set to [Off] for better picture quality.

- While data is being downloaded,
(Download Management) will be displayed under
(Network). - You may not be able to perform background download depending on the content or number of data items being downloaded.
- Installation may be required to use downloaded data such as game data or video files. Select the icon from the save destination that you specified when downloading, and then install the data or file.
- If uninstalled data remains on the hard disk, you may not be able to use background download.

Network
Folding@home™
(Folding@home™) has been added as a feature under
(Network).
Folding@home™ is a distributed computing project that is run by Stanford University. The goal of the project is to research protein folding mechanisms in the hope that this will lead to medical treatments for related diseases. By starting the Folding@home™ program that is installed on a PS3™ system, you can participate in this project over the Internet. For more information about Folding@home™, select here.
Starting Folding@home™
To use Folding@home™, you must first download and install the program. Select
(Folding@home™) under
(Network), and then download the program from the Internet. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform this operation.
When installation is complete, you can start Folding@home™. For details on how to operate this program, see the Folding@home™ help screen. You can view the help screen by pressing the
button.
Remote play via an access point
You can now use the remote play feature from a PSP® system via an access point. This allows you to establish a remote play connection with a PS3™ system that is not equipped with the wireless LAN feature (20 GB model).
Example of a common configuration using a wireless router
- A wireless router is an access point equipped with router functionality. An access point is a device that allows you to connect to a network wirelessly. A router is a device used when sharing one Internet connection among multiple devices.
- A modem may be equipped with router functionality. Connect the PS3™ system to a device that is equipped with router functionality.
- If the access point and modem both are equipped with router functionality, turn the router functionality off on one of these devices. The PS3™ system and PSP® system must be connected within the same network. If two or more routers are used at the same time, the PS3™ system and PSP® system may be connected to separate networks and you may not be able to use remote play.
Using remote play (via an access point)
- Register (pair) the PSP® system with the PS3™ system.
- Create a network connection for connecting the PSP® system to an access point.
For details on creating a network connection, refer to the user's guide for the PSP® system. If the PSP® system is already connected to a network via an access point, you do not have to create a new network connection. - Select
(Remote Play) under
(Network) in the PS3™ system's home menu.
The system will enter remote play connection standby mode. - Select
(Remote Play) under
(Network) in the PSP® system's home menu. - From the list of connections, select the connection for the access point to be used for remote play.
If the connection is successful, the PS3™ system screen will be displayed on the PSP® system.
