      السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

      hi guys
      sisters / brothers
      beginners / intermediate / advanced

      ??? so ... how r u

i am interested in this forum ... it lets me help and have fun with others ....but that doesn't mean we don't need to review our information and the thing we started to forget

i am gonna talk about 6 simple rules about Adjectives

hope u get benefits and copy them to any website u like

      it is free

      let's go

      .Adjectives describe nouns and pronouns

,Adjectives tell what things (or people) look like, what kind they are

.or how many of them there are

? Adjectives answer the questions what kind

      ? which one
      and
      ? how much

.What kind ? the old car with the broken window

.Which one ? the fourth chapter of the book

      How many ? twelve student

.Here are some things you should know about adjectives

      :::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::

      A. Adjectives always come in front of nouns, not after them
      : For Example
red car............red is Adj. .....car is noun

long hair............long is Adj. .....hair is noun
tall student............tall is Adj. .....student is noun
clever boy:icon6: ............clever is Adj. .....boy is noun
stupid girl ............stupid is Adj. .....girl is noun
arrogant member............arrogant is Adj. .....member is noun

      :::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::

: B. Ajectives can also follow linking verbs
      : For Example
      Be

      He is happy
      ------------------
      Seem
      You seem sad
      ------------------
      Look
      She looks beautiful
      ------------------
      Smell
      That smells good
      ------------------
      Taste
      Candy tastes sweet
      ------------------
      Feel
      silk feels smooth
      ------------------

      :::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::

      C. Adjectives are always singular. Never add an s to an adjectives or

.use a plural word as an adjective
      : For Example

      (a six-foot wall .....................(not a six-feet wall
      (a five-dollar bill ................(not a five-dollars bill
      (a two-year-old child ............... (not a two-years-old child

      :::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::

      some tennis balls
      the saudi student

      :::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::=:::

Hey Another_One, thank you so much for what you've said
It's really useful, I'm sure everyone who reads it will definitely benifit from it

I just liked to add something
      D. Nouns can be adjectives
Many get confused when there are two nouns and don't know which one is the adjective, so put in mind that it's always the first word
      :like in
      Computer game
The adjective is COMPUTER and it describes the noun GAME
      Tennis ball
The adjective is TENNIS and it describes the noun BALL

:There's another thing that I'd like to mention
      F. - ing and - ed words (past participles) can be adjective
I noticed that alot mix between using -ing and -ed to refer to themselves or other things

:such as the words confused & confusing
I am confused because what you are saying is confusing
and not: I am confusing because what you are saying is confused
      r bored & boring
I am bored because the class is boring
and not: I am boring because the class is bored

It's true that both of them are adjectives, but you have to becareful when to use the one ending with -ing and the one ending with -ed, of course depending on what you mean

      And that's it
Thanks again Another One for this information

      we miss u
      be back,, quickly
      pleassssssssssssssse
      **
      nice topic
      a very good one,,, indeed
      i really liked it
:let me add this about adj
:H) They can be modified by adverbs
      a very expensive car
:I) They can be used as complements to a noun
the extras make the car expensive
      ******
      Let me also talk about
:the adj order in a sentence
adjs. in a sentence cant be put haphazardly
they have to be arranged acording to a certain order
      u can say
      The round glass table
      but u can never say
      The glass round table
      and so on
:here r some useful sites about adj. order
adj. order 1<<< this one is somehow difficult
      read it carefully
adj. order 2 <<<<<<<<<< this one is really useful
adj. order 3<<<<<< this one is so direct
      wish u find them useful
This is part of my reply
      i'll be back

      BACK
this is the second part of my reply

      **********

      let me agree with Angel
      :about this point

using adjs. ending in -ing or -ed

there is always a kind of misplacing of these two types of adjectives

      *****1****

the adjective ending in -ing usually expresses cause**
It is derived from an active verb
e.g the concert is thrilling to the audience

An -ed adj. usually expresses result**
It is derived from a passive verb
e.g the audience is thrilled by the concert

      *****2*****

When the adjective ends in -ing**
it means that the person or thing causes this particular effect
Rules frustrate me. Rules are frustrating
Snakes terrify me. They are such terrifying creatures

This party is no fun at all.
      It is very boring
Not: This party is no fun at all. It's very bored

      ***
When the adjective ends in -ed**
it means that the person or thing experiences this particular effect
Rules frustrate me. I am frustrated when I have to learn them
Snakes terrify me. I'm always terrified when I see one

Nobody is having fun at this party. Everyone is bored

Not: Nobody is having fun at this party. Everyone is boring

      ****3****

Adjectives ending in -ed mean effect or result

Adjectives ending in -ing are used with the person or thing that causes something

      ******
these explanations r from a book and some web sites
      wish u find them useful
      All the best

سبحان الله و الحمد لله و لا اله الا الله و الله أكبر
لا اله الا انت سبحانك اني كنت من الظالمين
